Creatine vs Taurine

One has hundreds of human trials behind its core claim; the other has a mouse lifespan result and a human premise a 2025 analysis failed to replicate.

Creatine

Creatine monohydrate

Clinical data

The best-evidenced supplement here: strong human data for strength and lean mass with training, a real cognitive signal under stress, and a clean safety record — 'anti-aging' claims still outrun the data.

Taurine

Preclinical / minimal

Reversed aging markers and extended lifespan in animals (Singh 2023), with a human association — but no human outcome trial yet.

Our verdict

This is not a close call on evidence quality. Creatine monohydrate reliably increases strength, power and lean body mass alongside resistance training, including in adults over about 50, with a clean safety record; its own longevity claim is unproven, but you do not need that claim to justify it. Taurine's aging case rests on the 2023 Singh work in Science, where taurine declined with age across species and supplementation extended lifespan in mice, but a 2025 analysis of longitudinal human and primate data found circulating taurine does not reliably decline with age in people, undercutting the restore-what-you-lost premise. Taurine's human trials are small cardiometabolic ones, lower blood pressure and improved vascular function in prehypertension and limited, inconclusive cognitive effects; the two have never been compared directly.

Creatine fits if

Creatine is the better buy for anyone lifting, or trying to hold onto muscle and strength with age, where the human evidence is strongest and the cost is a few cents a day.

Taurine fits if

Taurine is a reasonable low-stakes try for someone focused on blood pressure and vascular measures, provided the anti-aging framing is treated as animal data rather than a human finding.
