Akkermansia's founding RCT showed real metabolic improvements (insulin sensitivity, cholesterol) from the pasteurized strain specifically, though a larger 2026 follow-up missed its primary endpoint. Lactoferrin's best case across its trial record is gentleness — easier on the gut than ferrous iron for anemia — rather than outright superior potency, and it's heat- and digestion-labile, so processing matters as much as label dose. Different jobs: Akkermansia targets the mucin layer and metabolic markers, lactoferrin targets iron status and mild infection adjuncts.
