Amazon One Medical review

Branded only, low visit fee

Branded GLP-1s only, prescribed through a $39 message visit or $59 video visit, with Amazon Pharmacy cash prices from $149 a month with a manufacturer coupon.

Our verdict

Amazon One Medical's on-demand weight-loss care is an inexpensive way to see a prescriber for a branded GLP-1, at $39 for a message-based treatment or $59 for a video visit. It prescribes only FDA-approved drugs, Wegovy, Zepbound and the Foundayo pill, and Amazon Pharmacy shows its cash price before you buy: from $149 a month for the pills and $199 for a Wegovy pen at the starting dose, with a manufacturer coupon if you qualify. The catches are that you must bring your own recent lab results, the visit fee buys one treatment rather than ongoing care, and on-demand care does not take insurance or handle prior authorizations.

What it is

The telehealth weight-loss service of Amazon One Medical, Amazon's primary-care business. There are two routes. On-Demand Care (formerly called pay-per-visit) is a cash-pay, 24/7 online service that anyone in the U.S. can use without a membership. Scheduled Visits are for One Medical members who live near a One Medical office and want insurance-billed care, including help with prior authorization. This review covers the on-demand route. Prescriptions can go to Amazon Pharmacy, which offers free delivery and shows Prime pricing, or to any pharmacy you choose. It does not prescribe compounded GLP-1s.

How it works

You choose your state and the type of care: Direct Message Care, with a first response in roughly 25 minutes to an hour, or Video Care, with a call in about 20 minutes. Message care is not available for every condition in every state. You complete a health intake and upload recent lab results showing creatinine, eGFR and a fasting glucose or hemoglobin A1c; if you have none, you buy them from a consumer lab, at your own cost. The service is for adults 18 to 64 who meet the FDA criteria (a BMI of 30, or 27 with a related condition) and do not have diabetes. It excludes people with a history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, pancreatitis, gastroparesis, gallbladder disease, heart failure or reduced kidney function, among others. After treatment you can message the care team for 14 days. If your prescription has no refills, you start a new treatment to get another.

Pricing transparency

Care is priced per treatment, from $39 for Direct Message Care and $59 for Video Care. The medication is separate. On-demand care accepts only cash for medication, and Amazon Pharmacy lists starting-dose prices with a manufacturer coupon, applied automatically if you qualify: Foundayo tablets $149 for 30 days (retail $648.90), the Wegovy pill $149 (retail $1,348.80), a Wegovy pen $199 for 28 days (retail $1,349.02), a Zepbound KwikPen $299, Wegovy at the 7.2 mg dose $399 and a Zepbound pen $499. Prices change with the dose, and manufacturer coupons cannot be used by people eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE or VA benefits. Labs are extra. For non-members, refunds are case by case, and no refund is given if the provider reviews your information and decides a prescription is not right for you; if the service cannot treat you at all, the treatment is canceled and you are not charged.

Branded vs compounded

Branded, FDA-approved GLP-1s only: semaglutide as the Wegovy pill and Wegovy pens, tirzepatide as Zepbound pens and the Zepbound KwikPen, and orforglipron as Foundayo tablets. Its providers will not write a prescription for compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, and will help a patient on a compounded drug move to a standard regimen. They also do not prescribe older weight-loss pills such as phentermine or Contrave through this service. Because these are the approved products, the trial evidence applies to the drug you receive.

Pros and watch-outs

What we like

  • Low visit fee: $39 by message or $59 by video
  • Branded, FDA-approved GLP-1s only, including the Wegovy and Foundayo pills
  • Medication price shown before you buy, with manufacturer coupons applied automatically
  • Prescription can go to Amazon Pharmacy with free delivery, or to any pharmacy
  • Available around the clock, with a response in about an hour or less

Watch-outs

  • You must supply recent lab results, which are not included
  • The visit fee covers one treatment; refills without a prescription need a new one
  • On-demand care does not take insurance or handle prior authorizations
  • No compounded option, and branded prices rise steeply with the dose
  • Coupon prices are not available to people on Medicare, Medicaid or other federal plans

Best for

Adults paying cash who want a branded GLP-1, especially a pill, with a low visit fee and their own lab results in hand.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who wants insurance to cover the medication through prior authorization, anyone on Medicare or Medicaid relying on coupon pricing, and anyone looking for a compounded GLP-1.

Frequently asked

How much does Amazon One Medical charge for GLP-1 weight-loss care?
On-Demand Care is $39 for a message-based treatment or $59 for a video visit. The medication is extra: with a manufacturer coupon, Amazon Pharmacy lists the Foundayo and Wegovy pills from $149 a month and a Wegovy pen from $199 at the starting dose. Lab work is also extra.
Does Amazon One Medical prescribe compounded semaglutide?
No. Its providers will not prescribe compounded GLP-1s. If you are already on a compounded drug, they can help you transition to a standard, FDA-approved regimen.
Can I use insurance?
Not through On-Demand Care, which is cash only and does not handle prior authorizations. One Medical members who live near an office can book insurance-billed Scheduled Visits instead, where prior authorization is possible.
Do I need lab work?
Yes. You need recent results showing creatinine, eGFR and a fasting glucose or A1c. If you do not have them, you can buy the tests from a consumer lab; they are not included in the visit price.
Can I get a GLP-1 pill through Amazon One Medical?
Yes. You can request the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) or Foundayo (orforglipron). With a manufacturer coupon, Amazon Pharmacy lists each at $149 for a 30-day supply at the starting dose.
Will I get a refund if I am not prescribed?
Not necessarily. Amazon One Medical says it will not refund a visit when the provider reviews your information and decides medication is not the right treatment. If the service determines it cannot treat you online at all, the treatment is canceled and you are not charged.
Is Amazon One Medical legit?
Amazon One Medical is a GLP-1 telehealth service you reach through an online intake a clinician reviews and a video visit with a clinician. The medications it names are branded medication. Its stated availability: U.S. only (message care not offered in some states). What it publishes up front: $39 message or $59 video visit per treatment; branded medication billed separately, from $149/mo with coupon; labs extra. Before you pay, ask in writing about a single monthly price you can check before an intake and whether it bills insurance.
