Better Med Spa review
Chicago med spa, Illinois only
A Lincoln Park med spa that runs a statewide telehealth GLP-1 membership for Illinois residents, with flat prices at any dose and a long membership commitment in its terms.
Our verdict
Better Med Spa suits a specific reader: someone in Illinois who likes the idea of a GLP-1 program run by a local, physician-directed practice they could walk into, and who might also use its aesthetic services. The GLP-1 prices are easy to read, with one monthly figure for each drug at every dose, and the medication is shipped to your door anywhere in the state. The catch is in the paperwork. The membership page shows a one-month option, but the general terms say every membership requires a 12-month commitment with a $200 fee to leave early, and that membership payments are final. Until the clinic confirms in writing which rule applies to the GLP-1 plan, treat this as a year-long commitment and budget for it.

Better Med Spa & Wellness is a med spa at 2117 North Halsted Street in Chicago's Lincoln Park, operated by Chore LLC, doing business as Better Medspa and Wellness. Most of its menu is aesthetic: Korean-style facials, injectables, lasers, microneedling and IV drips. Alongside that it runs a telehealth wellness program for patients anywhere in Illinois, covering GLP-1 weight loss, peptide therapy, testosterone and hair loss. All of it is overseen by its medical director, Dr. Brett Brechner, DO. The weight-loss menu includes semaglutide, tirzepatide, microdosed versions of both, and daily liraglutide injections. It describes its telehealth medications as sourced from U.S. 503A pharmacies, which are compounding pharmacies, though it doesn't name the pharmacy. It reports more than 10,000 patients treated and a 4.8 rating from 157 Google reviews. It doesn't display a LegitScript seal.
How it works
You start with a virtual consultation in which the medical team reviews your health history and goals and decides which GLP-1, if any, suits you. If you're approved, the prescription is shipped to you or sent to a local pharmacy, and the team shows you how to inject by video. Each GLP-1 plan includes an initial medical evaluation, gradual dose increases, nutrition and lifestyle coaching, ongoing monitoring and dose changes, with regular check-ins to review progress and side effects. Lab work is available when you or the provider want it, and the clinic sells its own wellness blood panels. Members get a care guide after qualifying, tailored nutrition and fitness goals, and access to the team for questions. Because the clinic is a real storefront, Chicago-area patients can also be seen in person in Lincoln Park. The clinic is open seven days a week, and appointment changes need 24 hours' notice to avoid a late-cancellation fee.
Pricing transparency
The membership page lists the GLP-1 plans at one price regardless of dose. Semaglutide is $300 a month on a one-month plan or $290 a month on a three-month plan. Tirzepatide is $400 a month, or $390 a month for three months. Liraglutide is $550 a month. The treatment pages describe the monthly plan as including the weekly medication, medical oversight and follow-up support. GLP-1 members also get 15% off retail and discounts on the spa's injectables, IV therapy and other services. The terms complicate this. They say all memberships require a minimum 12-month commitment from enrollment, that leaving early costs $200, and that payments for memberships and treatments are final and non-refundable. Insurance isn't mentioned for the GLP-1 plans, and the clinic offers financing with no hard credit check.
Branded vs compounded
Better Med Spa prescribes semaglutide and tirzepatide as weekly injections, lower-dose microdosing protocols (including semaglutide drops held under the tongue), and liraglutide as a daily injection. The GLP-1 pages don't use the word compounded, and one telehealth section describes the program as using FDA-approved GLP-1 drugs. Its telehealth pages, though, say medications come from U.S. 503A pharmacies, and a flat monthly price at every dose matches how compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are sold, not brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound. Ask which product you'll receive and which pharmacy fills it before you pay. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and haven't been through the trials behind the brands. Liraglutide is an FDA-approved drug, but the clinic doesn't say whether it supplies brand-name or generic. A search of the FDA warning-letter database under the company's names returned no letters.

The evidence behind what Better Med Spa prescribes
We grade the molecules, not the marketing. Here is what the human data actually shows for each thing on their menu.
- What the semaglutide weight-loss trials actually showed
STEP 1, STEP 4, and SELECT — the efficacy, the rebound, and the cardiovascular signal, read straight from the primary literature.
- Tirzepatide vs semaglutide for weight loss: what the trials actually support
Most comparisons are cross-trial. Only SURPASS-2 and SURMOUNT-5 randomized one drug against the other — here's the precise distinction.
- Compounded vs branded GLP-1: regulatory status, sourcing and the evidence
Compounded GLP-1 isn't FDA-approved, the shortage exception behind it ended in 2025, the FDA moved against mass-marketed copies in 2026, and the trial data belong to the branded product. Here's the precise picture.
