Livea review

Clinic care, by video too

A Minnesota medical weight-loss practice with six clinics and video visits, prescribing compounded or brand-name GLP-1s inside a monthly program with dietitian support and body-composition scans.

Our verdict

Livea is a regional medical weight-loss practice rather than a national online pharmacy, and that shapes everything about it. You start with a free consultation in one of its six Minnesota clinics or by video, a provider builds a plan that can include compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, a microdose protocol or brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound, and you keep seeing that care team for check-ins, dietitian advice and body-composition scans. That's more structure than most GLP-1 sellers offer, and the in-person option is a real plus if you live near a clinic. The trade-offs are reach and price clarity. Telehealth covers Minnesota and Wisconsin, with Iowa and Florida listed on one page only, and the cost is split between a monthly membership from $69 and medication billed on top, with different starting figures on different pages. Livea suits someone in its area who wants supervised care and coaching; ask for a written monthly total, medication included, before you enroll.

What it is

Livea, also called Livea Weight Control Centers, is a medical weight-loss and metabolic-health practice based in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Medical services come from Livea Medical, PLLC, a physician-owned practice managed by Minnesota Weight Control, Inc., which does business as Livea. It runs six clinics, in Apple Valley, Coon Rapids, Edina, Minnetonka, Roseville and St. Cloud, and says it has served more than 50,000 patients over 15-plus years. The care team is a medical director, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, registered dietitians and coaches. Beyond GLP-1s, it offers dietitian-led nutrition programs, hormone therapy for women in perimenopause and menopause, testosterone therapy for men, NAD⁺, lipotropic B12 shots, IV therapy and cosmetic Dysport, and it sells meal replacements and supplements through its own shop. Its app tracks food, water and progress and now syncs with some smart scales. Phone support runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central time.

How it works

You book a free, no-obligation consultation online or by phone, either at a clinic or as a 30-to-45-minute video visit. Before it, you fill in a health questionnaire. The provider reviews your history, goals and eligibility, and in a clinic visit you also get an InBody scan measuring muscle, fat and water. If medication is appropriate, you leave with a prescription and a titration schedule. Medication ships free in discreet packaging, usually within three to five days, or can be picked up in clinic or sent to a local pharmacy, and automatic refills are available. From there, the FAQ describes monthly provider visits during active weight loss, more frequent coach check-ins, and a follow-up four to six weeks after starting a GLP-1 to review your dose. Labs, when ordered, are drawn at a lab near you and reviewed at a follow-up. Telehealth patients can visit any clinic for a free InBody scan. Between visits you can message your provider in the app.

Pricing transparency

Livea doesn't publish one all-in monthly price. Its medical weight-loss page says plans start at $69 a month, and a note there explains that this covers program access and medical supervision, while medication costs vary and are discussed at the consultation. The FAQ says the same: membership covers provider visits, coaching, InBody scans and nutrition support, and GLP-1, hormone and NAD⁺ medications are billed separately. The GLP-1 page, by contrast, quotes compounded semaglutide from $99 a month and compounded tirzepatide from $199 a month when it's available. Ask whether those figures sit on top of the membership. The first consultation is free. Most programs run month to month without a long-term contract, though extended programs can carry a longer commitment, and pause and cancellation terms vary by program and are set out in your patient agreement. Livea takes credit and debit cards, and HSA and FSA cards, and says payment plans may be available. It doesn't require insurance, but brand-name Wegovy or Zepbound may be covered by some plans.

Branded vs compounded

Livea prescribes compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide as weekly injections, plus a microdosing protocol it uses for patients who are sensitive to side effects or moving to maintenance. Its medical page also lists oral semaglutide and tirzepatide options without saying which products those are, so ask whether an oral version is brand-name or compounded. Compounded tirzepatide is described as subject to availability since the FDA ended the brand-name shortage. Brand-name Wegovy and Zepbound are offered too, and may be covered by insurance for patients who meet the criteria. Livea says its compounded medications come from licensed, accredited US compounding pharmacies, but it doesn't name them. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. The site shows a LegitScript image with a link to LegitScript's search page, but no certification number, so check its status there. A search of the FDA warning-letter database under Livea, Livea Medical and Minnesota Weight Control returned no letters to the company.
