NAD⁺ IV therapy vs NAD⁺ precursors

Same molecule, two delivery routes. One has randomized human data for raising NAD+; the other is a clinic infusion at $250 to $1,500 a session with no controlled outcome trial.

NAD⁺ IV therapy

Preclinical / minimal

No controlled outcome trial of IV NAD⁺ for any wellness use; the one human study found infused NAD⁺ is cleared from plasma quickly.

NAD⁺ precursors

NR / NMN

Clinical data

Oral NR/NMN reliably raise blood NAD⁺ in RCTs — but whether that translates into anti-aging outcomes is still open.

Our verdict

On evidence this is not close. Oral NR and NMN reliably raise blood NAD+ in randomized trials, while intravenous NAD+ has no controlled trial showing the anti-aging, energy or addiction benefits clinics sell it for; the one human IV study measured metabolism and found infused NAD+ is cleared from plasma quickly, and the addiction claims rest on uncontrolled case series. IV NAD+ is also not FDA-approved for any condition and is typically compounded, which adds purity and sterility variability. Neither route has been shown to extend healthspan, and the two have never been compared directly.

NAD⁺ IV therapy fits if

Realistically almost nobody on the evidence; the drip only makes sense for someone who has already accepted they are paying for a clinic service rather than a demonstrated benefit.

NAD⁺ precursors fits if

Anyone whose actual goal is raising NAD+, where oral NR or NMN costs a fraction of a session, needs no clinic visit, and has the randomized human data behind it.
