Needle-free GLP-1

Oral GLP-1 providers: the Wegovy pill, Foundayo and compounded tablets

A GLP-1 you take by mouth comes in two very different kinds. One is an FDA-approved pill, the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) or Foundayo (orforglipron), tested in large trials and sold at manufacturer cash prices. The other is a compounded tablet, drop or lozenge made by a pharmacy, which is cheaper to start and has far less evidence behind it. Each row below says which one the service sells and what it costs.

Short answer

45 services sell a GLP-1 by mouth: 9 list an FDA-approved pill and 39 a compounded oral form, and some offer both. If you want an oral drug with trial results, choose the Wegovy pill or Foundayo. Compounded sublingual and dissolving semaglutide is not FDA-approved, and no oral tirzepatide is approved at all.

The shortlist

45 providers, side by side

Included: services that sell a GLP-1 taken by mouth, either an FDA-approved pill (the Wegovy pill, Foundayo or Rybelsus) or a compounded oral, sublingual or dissolving form, as shown on the company's own site or in its review. The Access cell describes the oral option and its price; injection prices are left off. Partners are listed first; the order is commercial, not a ranking.

We never show a fabricated price or rating. Facts are shown only where a provider publishes them.

Which GLP-1 pills are approved, and what the trials showed

The Wegovy pill is semaglutide in a once-daily tablet, approved by the FDA in December 2025 for chronic weight management in 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg strengths. In OASIS 4, the trial behind the approval, people on the 25 mg dose lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight at 64 weeks, against 2.2% on placebo. The widely quoted 16.6% is from the same trial but counts only people who kept taking the drug as directed. Our Wegovy pill evidence review explains the two numbers.

Foundayo is orforglipron, Eli Lilly’s once-daily pill, approved in April 2026 in strengths from 0.8 mg to 17.2 mg. It is a small molecule rather than a peptide, so it doesn’t need an empty stomach or a fasting window. In ATTAIN-1, a 72-week trial of 3,127 adults, the highest dose produced an average 11.2% weight loss against 2.1% on placebo. See the orforglipron evidence.

Rybelsus, the older semaglutide tablet, is approved for type 2 diabetes rather than weight management, at lower doses. A few services list it; it is a diabetes drug prescribed off-label if used for weight. For context, the weekly injections still lead: semaglutide 2.4 mg produced 14.9% at 68 weeks in STEP 1 and tirzepatide 15 mg about 20.9% in SURMOUNT-1, as the pill vs injection comparison sets out.

Compounded tablets, drops and lozenges: what you are buying

Most rows offering an “oral GLP-1” at $169 to $399 a month sell compounded semaglutide, and a few compounded tirzepatide, as a tablet that dissolves under the tongue or against the cheek, a liquid drop or a lozenge. These are prepared by a pharmacy for each prescription. They are not FDA-approved, are not the same product as the Wegovy pill, and have no published human trials showing how much of the dose reaches the bloodstream. The approved semaglutide tablet needs an absorption enhancer and a strict empty stomach to get even a small fraction of its dose absorbed, which is why under-the-tongue versions can’t borrow its results. Oral tirzepatide is further still from the evidence: tirzepatide is approved only as a weekly injection, as our oral tirzepatide explainer covers.

If you choose a compounded oral form, ask four things before paying: the milligrams of drug per tablet or drop and how the dose rises; which pharmacy makes it and whether it is a 503A or 503B facility; whether the price changes at higher doses; and what the prescriber will do if your weight doesn’t move after a few months. Several services in the table publish only a starting price for their oral line.

How to take a GLP-1 pill so it works

The rules differ by pill. Semaglutide tablets, both the Wegovy pill and Rybelsus, go in first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of plain water, and then nothing else to eat, drink or swallow, including other pills, for at least 30 minutes. Breaking that routine cuts absorption. Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food. Compounded sublingual and dissolving forms come with the pharmacy’s own instructions; follow them exactly, and ask how long to hold the dose before swallowing. All of these start at a low dose and step up over weeks to limit nausea, the same as the injections.

What an oral GLP-1 costs each month

Brand-name pills are priced by dose. At Ro, for example, the Wegovy pill is $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 and 25 mg, and Foundayo starts at $149, with a $149 monthly membership billed on top. Hims, Hers and LifeMD start the Wegovy pill at $149 plus a membership or program fee, about $298 a month all-in. Compounded oral semaglutide runs from about $169 to $399 a month in the table, and some services quote only a first month or a one-time purchase, so check the Access cell for the basis of each figure. Insurance can help with some brand-name pills; ask the service whether it will check your coverage.

How we judge providers

  • Pricing transparency — is the all-in monthly cost clear, or does a low headline hide consults, labs, and medication fees?
  • Clinical oversight — real clinician review and dose titration, not a rubber-stamp questionnaire.
  • Branded vs compounded clarity — does the provider tell you plainly which you’re getting? (It matters — see our compounded-vs-branded explainer.)
  • Honest insurance handling — straight answers about what is and isn’t covered.

We never show a fabricated price or rating, and access notes appear only where a provider publishes them. Pricing and availability change often — confirm current details on the provider’s own site.

Keep comparing

Fine with a weekly shot? Compare the compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide price lists. Coming off Ozempic? The Ozempic alternatives page covers every route. For the trial data, see oral semaglutide in the PIONEER trials and Rybelsus vs Ozempic, or browse the whole GLP-1 provider roundup.

Choosing between two services? Every provider head-to-head is on one page, including LifeMD vs SkinnyRx, Mochi Health vs SkinnyRx and Strut Health vs LifeMD.

Common questions

Is the Wegovy pill the same drug as Ozempic?
Same molecule, different product. Both contain semaglutide. Ozempic is a weekly injection approved for type 2 diabetes; the Wegovy pill is a daily tablet approved in December 2025 for chronic weight management, taken on an empty stomach with a small sip of water.
Can I get Foundayo online?
Yes. Several telehealth services on this page prescribe Foundayo (orforglipron), which the FDA approved for weight management in April 2026. It is a daily pill with no food or water rules, and starting-dose cash prices of about $149 a month are listed by services such as Ro, Hims and Mochi Health, usually plus a membership.
Is there an oral tirzepatide?
Not an approved one. Tirzepatide, the drug in Zepbound and Mounjaro, is approved only as a weekly injection. The oral tirzepatide tablets some services sell are compounded, are not FDA-approved, and have no published trials showing how well they are absorbed.
Do compounded semaglutide drops and lozenges work?
There are no published human trials of compounded under-the-tongue or dissolving semaglutide, so nobody can say how much of the dose is absorbed or how much weight people lose on it. The trial results quoted for oral semaglutide come from the approved swallowed tablet, which uses an absorption enhancer. If you try a compounded form, track your weight and ask the prescriber what happens if it doesn't work.
